Mitchell Doesn't Show Ford F53 Wiring Diagram

The earlier F53s usually had the starter relay mounted on the wall (drivers side) just inside the dog house.  It is a common looking solenoid/relay.  You can usually tell if it's the starter relay that is failing by hearing only one click when the key is turned to the start position. (i.e. no chatter or multiple clicks).  Another clue is to try to start it with the head lights ON.  If the click is heard, but the lights don't dim significantly, it usually indicates that the lower starter solenoid did not get energized, through the starter relay, and therefor, did not draw the expected large amount of starter current.  If the lights DO dim significantly, it would indicate a starter solenoid, or starter, failure.

Attached is a diagram of how Ford wires their starters and relays/solenoids.  It won't help in locating the actual components, however.

Sorry, I didn't mean to throw you into the deep end of the pool for your first swim.

The Dog House is the cover over the engine between the two front seats.  It must be unlatched and opened.  It probably hinges toward the dash.

The starter relay will be on the side wall on the drivers side.  It will look something like the attached. (if it's there at all).

I would look at #32 coming out of Start inhibitor/neutral safety switch They are prone for intermittent operation. Some times you can jiggle/move trans/shiftier to confirm fault. I can't tell what color the wire may be in your owners manual? Good luck Switch on trans

My problem with that theory is that the OP says he gets a "click" with no further action, when it fails to start.  If there was NO signal coming out of the park/neutral switch (i.e. #32), into the "start Relay" up top, there would be NO click.

I thought he said intermittent? A voltage drop can just click sometimes and sometimes start. Run wiring to find the drop or end of voltage in the circuit.  I would make sure working on the right truck year make model. Diagram was different year. If contact in switch/relay dirty etc = Voltage drop, click no crank. Use a power probe  or meter NOT a test light. Should be batt. voltage. And yes make sure battery got 12.6

The OP did say the problem was intermittent, but when it does fail, he hears a single "click".  That is a common failure indication of a Ford starter relay (actually a small solenoid) with dirty, and corroded, contacts.

Click he hears is most likey starter? I doubt he can hear a micro relay. Bad starter? They do that too.

Hi Thanks again, ok yes I pulled the dog house Sunday and looked every where I saw the Map sensor but I didnt see the starter relay ? could it be someplace else ? I will try to get the wife to try and start will I close in on the click sound.

Relay near battery per Mitchell on demand E350 cut a way RV 6.8 Some fuseable links near relay so this looks like old school ford solenoid However voltage goes thur Trans/switch first red/blue wire. Verify circuit first before comdeming relay. I wish I good pull diagram up and send you. Mitchell won't let me copy/paste. You may be able to google a picture up. U tube? Good luck.

The F53 is not an "E350 cut away 6.8 RV".  It is an F53 stripped chassis vehicle.  The coach manufacturer would place the starter relay where ever they chose, NOT Ford.  Mine is on the side of the doghouse, not near the battery or the starter.

Spoke with Holiday Rambler and they said the drawings were so Generic that they have no clue , so I guess I will have to hunt it down .

No info in manuals or  wiring dia's no help from maker? Not impressed with Holiday Rambler. Helps me make choice what not what to buy. I would think not far from starting batt? I'm still very new at RV life and just started to look for one and plan on becoming a full timer with wife when we retire in one/two years. Just trying to help and also learn ups and downs of ownership. Now I don't even know where to look for wiring dia. Maybe ford? So F53 is chassis and V10/3 valve? Triton. Correct?
here You may need to ohm out to find wire Good luck
